OUR SHOT PUT METHODOLOGY

BUILD THE DELIVERY. LAUNCH WITH PURPOSE.

Glide and rotational shot put take different routes through the circle. Both require coordinated lower-body action, secure shot support and a committed delivery. We help each thrower develop one technique with understanding and purpose.

CHOOSE A PATHWAY

ONE EVENT. TWO TECHNIQUE PATHWAYS.

LTA develops shot putters through either glide or rotational technique. Each pathway has its own technical assessment. Athletes do not need to master both or earn both certifications.

01

GLIDE — DIRECTED TRAVEL INTO DELIVERY

Our glide teaching emphasizes loading the rear leg and using a heel-led push to move across the circle. The free leg helps direct the movement; it does not replace the push. We seek an active recovery into the middle rather than dragging the rear foot across the ring.

Relaxed shoulders and controlled upper-body positioning preserve room for delivery. The athlete arrives ready to continue the throw rather than stopping to rebuild the position.

02

ROTATIONAL — TURN WITH A PURPOSE

Our rotational teaching connects the entry, supporting-leg push and sweep into a usable landing in the middle. The foot, knee and hip work together as the front foot arrives, while the shot remains supported near the neck.

Rotation must prepare the delivery. Turning faster is not useful when it disrupts balance, shot support or the connection to the front of the circle.

A CONNECTED FINISH

PUSH INTO SUPPORT. LIFT THROUGH DELIVERY.

LTA teaches a committed delivery that transfers the throwing side into front-side support before lifting and extending. We develop the reverse as part of that finish. The intention is to complete the put and recover—not to spin on the spot or switch feet before the delivery has developed.

GLIDE DELIVERY

We coach an over-the-top lead-arm action into a firm finish.

ROTATIONAL DELIVERY

We coach the lead arm to open more horizontally as the delivery develops.

These are LTA teaching choices. The movement must remain coordinated and suitable for the individual athlete; no single release angle is prescribed for everyone.

HOW WE REVIEW PROGRESS

DIFFERENT ROUTES. A SHARED STANDARD.

Glide assessment covers preparation, travel, power-position transition, delivery and rhythm. Rotational assessment covers entry, drive, power-position transition, delivery and rhythm. Each rubric includes 25 observable qualities reviewed across six assessed attempts.

Coaches keep technical execution, legal distance and foul records separate. A limitation in one phase does not automatically erase effective work elsewhere.

WHAT YOU LEARN TO OWN

RECOGNIZE THE CONNECTION.

Learn to recognize your leg drive, shot support, timing and finish. Clear feedback helps you understand what changed and carry a useful focus into the next attempt.
